Helen Baker grew up in Europe and Southeast Asia as a military dependent; an experience that distinctly influences her global mindset. She attended a small women’s liberal arts college in North Carolina, earning a degree in Art History before receiving her MA in History from the University of Colorado. Her love of the Southwest, specifically Santa Fe, came from visits during her time researching the santeros of New Mexico and Southern Colorado. She is currently working towards an MSW in Social Work, a goal she sees as a natural extension of her passion for maternal health and work as a birth and postpartum doula. She has worked throughout her 25-year career in education to create culturally responsive art and history curricula that reflect the lived experiences of the community, develop curiosity and creativity, all while preparing students to be life-long learners. As an administrator she supported her teachers to do the same. She currently works as a Health Educator and Researcher for Candor Health Education, a non-profit in Chicago, Illinois. Here she teaches Puberty, Teen Sexual Health and Substance Abuse Prevention programming throughout Chicago and nearby counties.  She is happiest when spending time with her two teenage children and complicated corgi-mix, Wiggly.
